The Couple’s Neighborhood — Northwest / Nob Hill

We love where we live. The couple’s apartment was picked partially for the 98 walk score.

• Stairwalk (if you’re feeling crazy) — the bride likes to call this a masochist walk. It is terrible and awesome. Bring a J from Powerplant (happy hour 4:20–6pm!) if you’re feeling really crazy. NW Stairs and Trails Loop Walk.
• Paymaster — patio drinks and a $9 martini (gin, extra dirty if you want to cosplay Angie).
• Life of Pie — $9 margarita pizza, happy hour 11am–6pm. We visit more often than we should.
• Stepping Stone Cafe — neighborhood diner, crazy busy at peak hours so get there early or at lunch. We made our guest list here over breakfast :)
• NW 23rd — plenty of shops to visit (check out Rat Star Vintage).

“Best in the World, Wowee” — Kerns

There are great places to eat all over the city, but Kerns wins the award for best cluster of restos. You’ll have to work to find something bad to eat over here: Guero and Farag are solid options.

• Ken’s Artisan Pizza — good pizza with a Lambrusco worth the visit. Doesn’t take reservations, so there may be a wait. Pop into Holeman’s up the street for a drink while you wait.
• Cheese & Crack — a little soft serve never hurt nobody. Add a cowboy hat to your cone and say Howdy to get the “Max Experience.”
• Dear Sandy — many an hour of homework done here. Coffee until late, good pizza, martini if you like that kind of thing.

Downtown Core

Portland’s downtown has short blocks that are made for walking.

• Powell’s Books — obviously. Largest independent bookstore in the world, you gotta pop in.
• Java Man — a proper little NoLa beignet. Grab your little bag and walk over to Darcelle XV Plaza or Pioneer Square to people watch.
• Spella Cafe — my fave coffee coaster in the city, they understand what is meant by extra dry cappuccino. Italian style, grab and go. Great place to get coffee to go with your beignets.
• Voodoo Doughnut — this is a donut city. A city classic; there’s always the Voodoo gimmick, but we love her for who she is.
• Blue Star — funkier flavors. No need to visit Sesame, we’ve got you covered there.
• The Marie — sniff around a little, the groom loves a niche fragrance.

The Other Recs

• Eem — white curry, yum.
• Akadi — West African food.
• Double Dragon — another little study loc with a patio, not a bad little happy hour.
• Rose City Coffee — another location that saw many homework hours, the only 24-hour coffee shop in the city if you need her.
• See a movie — we have so many independent theaters here to see movies old and new.
• Antique shopping — Urbanite, Memory Den.
• Rimsky-Korsakoffee — all my love, a longtime loc for dessert and coffee.
• Food carts — a city staple, they’re all over town. Midtown Beer Garden has Tokyo Sando.
